Fulton County Health Officials Reach Out to Clergy to Help Stop H1N1
(2009-10-27)
(WABE) - The Georgia Department of Community Health says cases of H1-N1 across the state are leveling off.

Tuesday at the Harriet Darnell Senior Center, Fulton County health officials reached out to the area's faith-based community to help keep that trend going. WABE's Jim Burress reports.

Rev. Gregory Sutton says the 9,000 members of his Jackson Memorial Baptist Church are close:

"We're basically a huggin' and kissin' and touchin' church. Most churches are."

When it comes to the spread of H1N1, that's a concern. But, Dr. Patrice Harris, Dir. of Health Services for Fulton County, says clergy can help stop the spread of swine flu.

"The most important thing we can do is have dialogue, have conversations, and really focus on prevention."

Suggestions include offering hand sanitizer throughout church buildings, refraining from shaking hands, or sharing communion--at least until the virus has passed. Jim Burress, WABE News
