CDC Crafts Message for Social Media Outlets
ATLANTA, GA
(WABE) -
On the CDC's YouTube Page, Dr. Ann Shuchat talks about H1N1 basics:
" it's important to know this doesn't have anything to do with eating pork or touching pigs "
The video also appears on the CDC's Facebook page where people can comment. Some malign the video as propaganda. Others claim the vaccine is a government conspiracy.
"Many times their opinions may differ from ours, and unfortunately they're not accurate."
Dr. Jay Bernhardt is the Director of the National Center for Health Marketing at the CDC. He says despite the comments, social networking is an effective way to educate.
"Our goal is to reach people with information they can understand when, where and how they want it and need it."
Despite the criticism, the campaign is reaching a lot of people. The CDC has nearly 23,000 followers on Facebook alone.
