Swine Flu Vaccine to be Available to All, Free of Charge
The initial shipment might not include enough doses for everyone, but the plan is to vaccinate everyone--free of charge--within weeks of that initial shipment.
Dr. Patrick O'Neal heads Emergency Response for the Georgia Department of Community Health. He says this effort is virtually unprecedented, which shines light on the magnitude of the pandemic.
"Based what we're seeing with this current strain of H1N1, a vaccine seems to be the very best approach to prevention."
Dr. O'Neal cautions, though, it's not a magic bullet because the virus could change.
The 8-million coming to Georgia will go to prepare hospital and healthcare facilities, labs, and for vaccine administration costs.
