This Day in Atlanta History: Jackie Robinson at Ponce de Leon Park
ATLANTA, GA
(WABE) -
If we were to turn back Atlanta's clock to April 8, 1949, we'd find the city abuzz about baseball. The Brooklyn Dodgers were in town for a three-game exhibition series against the minor league Atlanta Crackers. Of special interest was the fact that major league baseball's first black player, Jackie Robinson, would be taking the field. WABE's Steve Goss talks with Georgia State University historian Cliff Kuhn, who picks up the story at Ponce de Leon Park.
