Atlanta
Falcons wrap up regular season and look towards 1st round playoff game.
ATLANTA, GA
(WABE) -
The Atlanta Falcons are preparing for their first playoff game since 2004.
The Falcons ended their regular season yesterday with a home win against the Saint Louis Rams 31 to 27.
It was a close game, but Falcons running back Jerious Norwood sealed the win with 45 yard touchdown run igniting a sold out Georgia Dome crowd.
The Falcons end the regular season with 11 wins, 5 losses and were a field goal away from a NFC South Division title. Being in the NFL playoffs was not on rookie quarterback Matt Ryan's mind at this time last year.
RYAN: "At that point, I was kind of thinking what am I going to do for New Year's."
The Falcons weren't playoff minded either. Their dismal 2007 season included Ryan's predecessor, Michael Vick, pleading guilty to federal dog fighting charges.
Atlanta has since turned the page and head coach Mike Smith thinks the Falcons can win the Super Bowl.
SMITH: "There's going to be 12 teams that have an opportunity to win this thing and we're one of the 12 teams."
One of the other 12 teams is the Arizona Cardinals. They'll play the Falcons in Arizona next week. © Copyright 2012, WABE
