AFA sues Delta over merger
(2008-11-25)
(WABE) - Delta Air Lines is moving forward with merging its workers and Northwest Airlines employees on one list.

However, a flight attendant union is suing Delta claiming the company's actions are violating federal law.

The 14 thousand non-union flight attendants at Delta and 75 hundred union flight attendants at Northwest have one question. Where is my spot in line? Delta says it's addressing the issue by using federal guidelines for blending seniority lists in a fair and equitable manner. Kent Landers is a Delta spokesperson.

LANDERS: "Delta believes that our employees including our new colleagues from Northwest deserve a prompt resolution to seniority integration issues because it's one of the most important issues on our employees' minds."

However, the Association for Flight Attendants says Delta is misinterpreting the law. The AFA argues Delta should let flight attendants vote on unionization before blending seniority. Edward Gilmartin is the AFA's general counsel.

GILMARTIN: "They're putting the cart before the horse here. You can ask them why they're doing it. We have our suspicions but it has the effect of pitting each group against each other."

Delta argues the AFA's lawsuit is misguided.
