U.S. Supreme Court Expected to Issue Davis Decision
(2008-10-06)
(WABE) - Today, the U.S. Supreme Court will issue its decision on whether it will hear the case of convicted cop-killer Troy Davis. The high court issued a stay of execution two weeks ago, only 2 hours before Davis was slated for lethal injection.

Davis's lawyers want the Supreme Court to finally give them a chance to present new evidence that so far, no court has heard.

Davis was convicted in 1991 of killing Savannah Police Officer Mark MacPhail, but since then nearly all the witnesses have recanted. There is no physical evidence tying Davis to the crime.

Martina Correia, Davis's sister, says she's been praying:

DAVIS: My brother's life should be more important than the color of his skin. My brother's life should be more important than legal technicalities. My brother's life should be important because these people that are recanted, yes they face perjury, and they know that, and they're still willing to stand up. So I'm praying that the Supreme Court will rule on justice, and not technicalities.

The family of the slain officer was reportedly upset that the Supreme Court issued the stay, and remain convinced that Davis is the killer.
