Fulton County 911 Center Audit Begins Today
Within 60 days, consultants from the Oregon-based firm Emergency Services Consulting Inc. will return a report that evaluates the center's performance and policies, and recommends improvements. The team will spend 5 days on-site.
Diane Schwartz is project manager:
SCHWARTZ: For an initial assessment, 60 days is a pretty normal time. It is accelerated and will require some dedicated time to that instead of working on multiple projects.
Fulton County officials have maintained that mishandling of Darlene Dukes's call on August 2nd was an isolated incident. But they still called for a comprehensive audit, to put to rest concerns that the 911 operator's mistakes may signal problems with the sytem.
In Dukes's case, the call-taker failed to cross-check the correct address with other information displayed on her screen, and instead sent an ambulance 30 miles south, in the opposite direction.

Today a group of outside auditors begin a review of Fulton County's 911 center. The review was prompted by the death of a Johns Creek woman earlier this month, who waited nearly an hour for an ambulance.null
