Georgia Department of Labor Releases Unemployment Numbers for June
For the same period, the state as a whole stayed unchanged. But compared to a year ago, Georgia's unemployment rate is up 1.3%
Sam Hall is the Director of Communications for the Georgia Department of Labor. He says while month-to-month figures are important, understanding the real trend within the economy comes from comparing data from year to year.
"We basically are not creating jobs fast enough to provide employment for people who are finishing school, graduating and entering the workforce and those who are loosing jobs," said Hall.
Hall says slow-downs in manufacturing, banking, and home construction continue to hit the state the hardest.
