Atlanta
Nichols Trial to Start Next Week, but Site Still Uncertain
Nichols' lawyers want to move the trial from Fulton County's Courthouse, because several victims in the case were shot there. Nichols is accused of killing three Fulton County courthouse officials
and a federal agent in March of 2005.
Judge James Bodiford said moving the trial to Atlanta's municipal court would be good for Nichols, the alleged victims, and jurors. But he's frustrated, because the matter's out of his hands:
BODIFORD: I have done everything I can do, I've put on my best public relations hat, I've dealt with very good people, some of them with very different ideas on what the contract should say.
According to Bodiford, the municipal court's sixth floor is ready to accommodate the trial, but Fulton County has yet to approve the move.
Fulton commissioners on Wednesday tabled an item that would have let the county use the city court, and in return, excuse the city from paying fees to the county for hearings on traffic offenses in Atlanta.
