Highlighting today's qualifying was the US Senate race.
At the State Capitol, incumbent Saxby Chambliss, a Republican, touted his work on the Senate Armed Services and Intelligence Committees.
CHAMBLISS: I have been a strong supporter of the continuing war on terrorism against Islamic extremism and its not by accident that we have not suffered another attack domestically since September 11th.
However, Jim Martin, one of the Democrats seeking the party's US Senate nomination, says he has real wartime experience.
MARTIN: Well, of course I served in Vietnam he didn't. The point is that the terrorist threat is a real one and we're not being smart about fighting that terrorist threat our troops are exhausted our resources are exhausted in Iraq.
Both Chambliss and Martin filed the necessary paperwork and paid about 5 thousand dollars in qualifying fees.
