Reports: Delta board to reconsider merger ATLANTA, GA (WABE) - Delta Air Lines' board reportedly meets tomorrow and Friday with Northwest Airlines' latest proposal to merge the companies on the table.

Delta won't confirm the meeting as a matter of policy. But merger expert Dan Kolber thinks the reports are true. He says Delta and Northwest made a noble gesture by first giving pilots from both airlines a chance to broker a deal.

That didn't work because the unions reportedly disagreed over seniority. Now, Kolber says the ball is back in upper management's court.

KOLBER: The Delta board they're astute business people and they're hard nosed and I think they're ready to move on.

Kolber, a lawyer in the Atlanta office of Baker Donelson law firm, says there are other reasons Delta's foot may be on the pedal. Fuel costs are rising and there's concern the Justice Department under the Bush Administration is more merger friendly than it will be under a new President. © Copyright 2012, WABE
