John Lewis endorses Obama
(2008-02-28)
(WABE) - Georgia Congressman John Lewis yesterday announced he'll cast his Super Delegate vote for Barack Obama.

Political experts say the Obama wave put Lewis' back up against the wall.

You know that old saying follow the leader

BLACK: Sometimes leaders have to catch up to the followers.

Emory University professor Merle Black says some leaders like Lewis doubted Obama's electability.

BLACK: Given the shift in African-American voters, I think he's gone the only way that he can really go on this. And I think this is what he really wants to do. He's not going to stand in the way of Barack Obama receiving the Democratic party nomination.

In his statement released Tuesday, Lewis said he hasn't seen Americans this enthusiastic about a candidate since John F. Kennedy.

Lewis is not the only Georgia Congressman jumping on the Obama bandwagon. This month, David Scott and John Barrow endorsed Obama joining longtime Obama supporters Hank Johnson and Sanford Bishop. Georgia's remaining Democratic Congressman, Jim Marshall of Macon, is undecided.
