The Board of Paroles may grant Davis clemency, deny him clemency, or give him a 90-day stay of execution while they further review his case. Today it was clear that the Board is carefully weighing those options.
They listened to over 6 hours of testimony on Davis' behalf. Board spokesperson Scheree Lipscomb says hearings rarely take more than 2 hours.
LIPSCOMB: This has been a very long hearing, I'm sure that the board is concerned because some people have recanted their statements, and the Board just wants to make sure that they're doing the right thing and they have all the information available.
Appeals courts have declined to review new evidence, which Davis' lawyers say would clear their client.
The Board is also hearing from the family of the victim, Officer Mark MacPhail. They will plead for the execution to go on as scheduled.
