Famed clarinetist respectfully plays in the shadows of Bottesini The Duetto for Clarinet, Double Bass and Orchestra was written by a virtuoso double bass player, Giovanni Bottesini and clarinetist Richard Stoltzman plays it on a recent CD with a famous bass virtuoso, Richard Fredrickson. Stoltzman is an internationally acclaimed soloist, but he was happy to let the bass player take the lead and have his clarinet play "second fiddle."

Richard Stolzman's recent CD, "Phoenix in Flight" includes the Duetto for Clarinet, Double Bass and Orchestra by Giovanni Bottesini, clarinet standards by von Weber and Debussy plus an arrangement of Tchaikovsky's "Autumn Song" made by Toru Takemitsu. (Navona Records)
