The third annual Cancer Shoot Out will be held on Saturday, June 21, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Brookings Gun Club. The Gun Club is located 2 miles east on Hwy 14. Bring the family to sample outdoor recreational activities to include black powder, tomahawks, trap, skeet and archery. New this year is a station where a professional outdoor photographer will help attendees learn more about outdoor photography and get helpful tips on getting the photo shot they want. Proceeds from this Free Will Donation event will go the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and credited to Brookings County Relay fundraising efforts. A portion of last years’ event monies helped fund research at SDSU and other worthy projects. Pre-registration is not required. Families, youth and adults, are encouraged to participate. Your donation allows you to participate in any or all of the demos of the scheduled activities and includes ammunition and equipment for this. You may also bring your own equipment for shotgun, black powder or archery activities including ammo/arrows. Safety will be encouraged and enforced at all stations. From 4 to 5 p.m. a Grocery Shoot will end the day. Participants will compete for HyVee gift cards. Special thanks to the Midwest Maidens Roller Derby for furnishing complimentary bottles of water, local Girl Scout Cadet Troop #50803 for handling concessions, the Big Sioux Bowman for use of their equipment, Dave Huebner for the black powder demo and a special thanks to the Brookings Gun Club for letting us host the event at their facility.
