Was There a Piccolo Before "Stars and Stripes"? with Stephanie Kocher and Christine Beard. NMM Live! Brown Bag music series.
The piccolo obbligato at the conclusion of John Philip Sousa's march "The Stars and Stripes Forever" is one of the most recognizable pieces of music written for the diminutive flute. But, as USD's Adjunct Flute Teacher Stephanie Kocher never fails to mention, there is more to the story of the piccolo than its iconic appearance in Sousa's march. Using historic instruments from the NMM's collections, Kocher and piccolo advocate Christine Beard (Professor of Flute, University of Nebraska at Omaha) will reveal some of the piccolo's best-kept secrets.

Bring your lunch and enjoy the music!
