A new book discussion group through the Vermillion Public Library, Books in Context seeks to broaden the scope of the book discussion through related events in the Library and the community. The discussion for the September selection, The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived The Great American Dust Bowl, by Timothy Egan will be led by Betsy Simons. Related events for the Books in Context this month include the Ken Burns film, The Dust Bowl, shown at the Library in 4 parts Tuesday afternoons in September from 2-3 pm. Also, a gallery talk by Alison Erazmus, Director of the University Galleries will showcase the exhibition on view: Dust, Metal and Stone: Graphic Art of the 1930s, featuring artwork from the Dust Bowl era. This event will be held Thursday, Sept 5th from 6-7 at the John A. Day Gallery, College of Fine Arts, USD campus.
