Weekly Standard: Santorum Shocked The Pundits
Weekly Standard: Santorum Shocked The Pundits Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum speaks to supporters in front of the Blair County Courthouse during a campaign rally on April 4, 2012, in Hollidaysburg, Pa.
GOP candidate Rick Santorum "suspended" his campaign for president yesterday. Daniel Harper of The Weekly Standard says Santorum made the GOP stronger. Daniel Harper is the online editor for The Weekly Standard.

Conservative leader Gary Bauer, who endorsed Rick Santorum earlier in the year, did a good job of summing up the former Pennsylvania senator's presidential run.

"Senator Santorum ran an outstanding campaign," Bauer said in a statement. "His success in state after state shocked the political pundits and beat the expectations. His message of smaller government and a strong national defense resonated with the heart of the Republican Party. His contribution to the debate has made the GOP stronger, and will contribute to the end of the Obama Administration this November. He and his family have made a wonderful contribution to the future of our country."
