Portsmouth Pro Musica, a 55-voiced auditioned community chorus, will honor our nation’s veterans on Sunday, January 19th, at 3pm, at Portsmouth High School with a special presentation of Karl Jenkins’ “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace.” The chorus, under the direction of Priscilla Stevens French, is collaborating with the Portsmouth High School Percussion Ensemble and chamber orchestra of trumpets, flute, and cello for this compelling piece which describes the consequences of war and the hope for peace in the new millennium.
Karl Jenkins, a Welsh composer and popular jazz musician, incorporates a variety of musical styles ranging from a 15th century French tune, Gregorian chant, Latin Mass, and jazz and pop idioms to reflect our global society. A range of sacred and secular texts is utilized, including works by Kipling and Tennyson.
Due to the generous support of Portsmouth Rotary Club, the chorus is distributing 200 complimentary tickets to active military and veterans.
Proceeds of this concert will also benefit PPM’s upcoming 2015 Tour of Budapest, Prague, and Vienna.
Purchase tickets at the door or online at PortsmouthProMusica.org and your tickets will be held at the door. $18/adults, $12/student/military. Snow date for the concert will be Monday, January 20th at 7:30 PM. Please contact Greg Cyr at email@example.com for more information.
