Hackers hit UNK computers

(NET Radio) - University of Nebraska at Kearney officials have sent warning letters to students after discovering the university's computer system had been hacked. The security breach involved nine university computers in early June. Officials say of the nine computers, five contained names and partial complete Social Security numbers. Officials say the breach originated in the Republic of Slovenia. Debroah Schroeder is the assistant vice chancellor for information technology .

"No evidence that any files on the machines had been accessed," Schroeder said. There was no evidence of software being installed on the machines, just that someone had been there."

Schroeder says it's possible with the right tools to copy a file and leave no evidence. She says the machines and found that five of them contained social security numbers.
