Von Maur to reopen Thursday
(NET Radio) - Von Mauer plans to reopen it's store at Omaha's Westroads Mall this Thursday. The store was the site of a killing spree earlier this month. Von Maur issued a statement today saying it plans to hold a brief ceremony in memory of those killed and hurt during the shooting before the store reopens at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 20th. The ceremony will be held by the store's interior mall entrance. On December 5th Nineteen-year-old Robert Hawkins shot 11 people inside the store on December 5th, killing eight and wounding three. He then shot and killed himself. Company president Jim von Maur says the company and his family are committed to doing everything they can to support and provide comfort to the victims, their families and the company's employees. Company spokeswoman Megan Hakes says Von Maur made counseling available to its employees right after the shooting, and employees can still call a counseling hotline. But she says most of the store's employees have told the company they want to get back to work. Hakes says Von Maur will work with employees who have a difficult time returning to work or may want to change to a different department of the store.
