Cell research promises stronger antibiotics
(NET Radio) - A hot topic in biology for the last decade has been a theory called cell suicide. It's where some cells are programmed to die in order for other cells to better resist antibiotic drugs. It's a genetically encoded form of altruism, according to Dr. Ken Bayles, a microbiologist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. While most research has focused on complex animal cells, Bayles says this might be happening among the simplest organisms.
