NU Regents criticize tax-cut proposals
(NET Radio) - Along with other state-funded agencies, the university is reviewing its budget and negotiating with the state legislature for funding. At the same time, senators also are considering several tax cut proposals, including a plan by Governor Dave Heineman that would reduce income taxes by a quarter of a million dollars a year. The university has asked for nearly 50 million dollars a year in funding increases over the next two years. But preliminary budget recommendations by the legislature's Appropriations Committee calls for an increase of just 25-million. Regent Chuck Hassebrook of Lyons said he's like to see the state make funding education and holding down tuition a higher priority. © Copyright 2018, NET Radio
