Man who served as Malcom's right-hand man dies

(wesm) - A Richmond man who was once the right-hand man of slain black Muslim leader Malcolm X has died.
Benjamin Goodman Karim died this week after a fall. He was 73. A service will be held today in Chesterfield County.
Karim was working at a recording company in New York in the 1950s when he joined Malcolm X's organization and redubbed "Benjamin 2X". For the next seven years, Benjamin 2X worked closely with Malcolm X, becoming a key aide and standing in fo hom at events around the country. He also ran the temple's education program.
After Malcolm X was fatally gunned down in New York's Audobon Ballroom in 1965, Karim continued speaking and writing about X's ideas and served as consultant to Spike Lee's 1992 film abot Malcolm X.
