Southern Illinois Hog Opperation Aquires Nebraska Pork Business

(wsiu) - A Nebraska-based hog operation has been acquired by an Illinois family with more than 100 years in the pork business.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that The Maschhoffs LLC announced Friday that it had bought NNP of Columbus, NE, The sale will close at the end of March. The cost was not disclosed.

NNP, formerly called Nebraska Pork Partners, is considered to be one of the 15 largest pork producers in the U.S. Under the sale, Carlyle, IL-based Maschhoffs will acquire 55,000 breeding sows and about 80 NPP production sites in Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota.

Julie Maschhoff says the sale will bring her family's breeding herd to 192,000 sows, making it the largest family-run hog operation in the U.S. She says there are no plans to close any of the production sites.
