The Truancy Epidemic
(2010-11-30)
(kios) - The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority continues its Coffee and Conversation Series tonight at 6:00 with the Truancy Epidemic.

The program takes place in the OPS TAC Building Cafeteria. The featured panel includes Senator Brad Ashford, the Honorable Elizabeth Crnkovich and Matt Ray, Director of Student Community Services from OPS. Ray says he's not comfortable with the term "truancy epidemic" and prefers to think of it as absenteeism. He says, "truancy to me is when a student is out of school and the parent doesn't know where they are at. I prefer to think of it as a student's being absent for whatever reason, whether it's sickness or because of a school phobia. It's more about looking at why students, as a whole, are not coming to school."

There is no charge to attend and everyone is welcome. Complimentary coffee will be available. For more information, the number is 930-1002.
