$12 M in Job Training Grants Coming to Michigan
Ed Montgomery heads the White House Council for Automotive Communities and Workers. He says the money is intended to help unemployed people, high school dropouts and people living in high-poverty neighborhoods "to help them get into and gain access to the new green economy, to get jobs in renewable energy industries, in green construction, in weatherization and other sectors like that, including advanced battery manufacturing."
Hector Hernandez heads the Center for Working Families at Southwest Housing Solutions in Detroit, which is getting a $4 million grant.
"We anticipate training in excess of 300 people that end up being gainfully employed in the green sector," he said.
Grand Rapids Community College, and Mott Community College in Flint also won grants.
The job training is intended for high school dropouts, people with criminal records, and people living in high-poverty neighborhoods.
