Seasonal Flu Vaccine Becoming Hard to Find in Metro Atlanta
(2009-10-29)
Vials of Influenza A(H1N1) monovalent vaccine are pictured on the labelling collection table at Sanofi Pasteur plant in Swiftwater Pennsylvania
(WABE) - While much focus has been paid to the delay of the H1N1 vaccine, there's now an increasing shortage of the seasonal flu vaccine. WABE's Jim Burress reports.

Still need a seasonal flu shot? Fulton County's top health official says you'll either have to wait or look elsewhere.

"Over the past month or so we had some vaccinations already scheduled. So we were able to complete a few of those. Then as of about a month ago, we were totally out in the Fulton County Health District."

Dr. Patrice Harris says her office is referring residents to private clinics, like the 'Minute Clinic' at some area CVS stores.

But Holly McDonald, manager of operations for metro Atlanta's Minute Clinics, says availability there remains spotty:

"But it's a limited supply, probably 100 doses or under, so that will go very quickly. Sometimes we have given as much as a hundred a day."

Since drug makers have shifted production to the H1N1 vaccine, no one is sure when seasonal vaccine supplies will return to normal.
