Plan for H1N1 not expected to include closing schools
(2009-08-13)
(wbaa) - The new school year starts Thursday for the Tippecanoe School Corporation.

Students in Lafayette and West Lafayette public schools head back to classes Monday.

Part of the preparation for the new school year has included discussions about how to prevent an outbreak of the H1N1 virus.

Tippecanoe County Health Department Administrator Ron Cripe says everyone should practice the three Cs Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough, Contain yourself at home if you're not feeling well, and Clean your hands.

He is hoping a vaccine will be available by late October.

Cripe says local, state, and federal health officials seem to agree that it will not be necessary to close schools that have cases of H1N1.
