Emory Begins H1N1 Clinical Trials
(2009-08-10)
(WABE) - About 200 adult volunteers in the Atlanta area will get a series of three shots.

Researchers will study them to see if one vaccination is enough, or if two are necessary. They also will learn whether or not the H1N1 vaccine can be given with the regular, seasonal flu shot.

Dr. Mark Mulligan is the principal investigator of Emory's Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit. He says age could also be a factor.

"We don't know if some age groups, perhaps older individuals would only require one dose, because they do have some preexisting immunity from many years ago when they may have seen a similar virus."

Mulligan says Emory still needs volunteers over the age of 65. Pediatric trials begin here next week.
