Census seeking bilingual workers LINCOLN, NE (NET Radio) - Lori McAlister, a spokesperson for the Census office in Lincoln, says it's especially important to offer census services in Spanish, given the growing Hispanic community in Nebraska.

McAlister says people applying for census jobs will be able to take a qualifying test in Spanish. Applicants who pass the test in Spanish will also be required to demonstrate proficiency in English in order to be hired as census workers. McAlister says the government will first try to hire U.S. citizens for all census jobs. But some non-citizens with permission to work in the U.S. may be hired to fill some positions. The census also will hire an unknown number of bilingual speakers of other languages.
