Whites to become minority in U.S. by 2050
(Associated Press) -

The nation's population has grown quite a bit this year.

The Census Bureau estimates the U.S. will begin 2009 with more than 305 million residents -- 305,529,237 to be precise.

That's an increase of more than 2.7 million this year.

The bureau says that come January, the United States should register one birth every eight seconds and a death every 12 seconds.

In addition, international migration is expected to add one person to the U.S. population every 36 seconds in January.
