Conductor Lorin Maazel's addiction contained no nicotine, but plenty of side effects. Some obsessions and compulsions are better than others. Conductor Lorin Maazel admits that at one point in his career, he spent too much time at the opera. He describes it as an addiction.

Since ending his 7-year tenure as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic, Lorin Maazel continues to guest conduct around the world and direct the Castleton Festival, a summer festival of mostly chamber operas at his home in Castleton, Virginia.
