PROGRAMS
On Sunday, Feb. 5, "Nebraska Concerts" features "Mozart and Magic," the opening concert of the 2010-2011 Omaha Symphony season with guest conductor Mark Gibson and guest mezzo-soprano Andria Helm. Pieces include Rossini's "Overture to La Cenerentola (Cinderella)"; Mozart's "Symphony No. 29 in A Major, K. 201"; Milhaud's "Le boeuf sur le toit (The Ox on the Roof), Op. 58"; and de Falla's "El amor brujo (Love, the Magician)." Also featured in this broadcast is Georges Onslow's "Grand Sextuor, Op. 77" from the last concert performed by the Third Chair Chamber Players (the group now known as the Nebraska Chamber Players).
"Nebraska Concerts" continues on Sunday, Feb. 12, with the Lincoln Early Music Consort and guests Dulces Voces presenting "From Racketts to Rommelpots," a celebration of ancient instruments. The Feb. 5 broadcast also includes performances of Chen Yi's "China West Suite" and Rimsky-Korsakov's "Quintet," from the last concert by the group formerly known as the Third Chair Chamber Players.
The Sunday, Feb. 19, program features a University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music concert with The University Singers, the Chiara String Quartet, William McMullen, Anita Breckbill, Tom Kelly, Mike Thompson and Debbie Bouffard performing Bach's "Mass in B Minor."
On Sunday, Feb. 26, selections from the 2011 Meadowlark Music Festival round out February's "Nebraska Concerts." Listeners will hear an eclectic mix of classical and contemporary compositions featuring violinist Gregor Huebner, cellist Dave Eggar, percussionist Chuck Palmer, pianist Klaus Mueller and bassist Ariel De La Portilla.
