Ethanol promotion effort begins
(2008-09-22)
(NDPR) - North Dakota ethanol producers are launching a campaign to promote ethanol fuels.

The state's Renewable Energy Council is also kicking in $168,000 for the campaign.

State Commerce director Shane Goettle chairs the Council. He says this is an educational campaign.

"They know that when people pull up to the pump, there's still some fear about putting ethanol in the tank," said Goettle. "They (the ethanol industry) want to get out some good facts about the use of ethanol in our vehicles, and do some promotions that help the public become more aware and more comfortable with the use of ethanol."

Goettle says it will promote both E-10 and E-85. He also says the American Lung Association is also involved in the effort.

"They believe that ethanol is better for the environment," said Goettle. "That plays into what they're primarily concerned about, and that's cancer causing agents that lead to lung cancer and lung disease."
