Armey: Time to move on
(2008-09-19)
(NDPR) - A North Dakota native who served as US House Majority Leader says he was correctly quoted in a new book about Vice President Dick Cheney.

In the book "Angler," Dick Armey was quoted as saying Cheney misled him about Iraq's threat to the United States.
In Bismarck for a series of appearances, Armey was sked about the quotes. He said they were accurate -- but he said now is not the time to dwell on the past.

"We've got so many important things to do in America and with America for the world," Armey told Bismarck reporters. "We;ve been such a great example of freedom and liberty across the globe. And we have an opportunity to re-emerge in that vein again. We need to get on with it."

Armey also says for a while, the GOP seemed to have lost its way. But he thinks that's changing.

"The foundation values (of the party) are what we're reorienting ourselves to now," said Armey. "This Republican Party, largely with John McCain's leadership, is rediscovering the party of Ronald Reagan, the party of the Contract with America, and the party of Barry Goldwater."

Armey says he hopes the US will be able to avoid war with Iran. And he says the economy needs our immediate attention.
