"Dino digs" scheduled for summer
(2008-05-27)
(NDPR) - The state Historical Society and the state Geological Survey will be sponsoring four public dinosaur digs this summer.

Those "digs" allow people to dig for fossils, with professional supervision. They've proven to be popular with some tourists.

State paleontologist John Hoganson says the digs will be near Rhame, Marmarth and Medora.

"The way these are set up, we have to partner with private entities, because they can handle the logistics of registration, lunches and so forth," Hoganson said. "We just provide the expertise for doing these digs. And that's what people are looking for -- these kinds of experiences, I think."

Hoganson says the partners are the Pioneer Trails Museum at Rhame, the Marmarth Research Foundation and the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation.
