ND voters have election day choices
(2008-05-13)
(NDPR) - It used to be that - when you wanted to vote, you had to go to a polling place on election day, or you had to apply for an absentee ballot.

But that's changed.

"There are going to be 22 counties using a vote-by-mail process," said Secretary of State Al Jaeger. "Two of our counties -- Stutsman and Stark -- are going to be using 'vote centers' -- where a rural person who works in the city can vote in the city. Some of our larger counties -- like Cass County -- have cut back on the number of polling places, but there will still be enough locations available."

Jaeger says 50 years ago, North Dakota had over 2500 precincts. Now, he says, the state will have only about 350 polling sites. But he says it will be easy to vote.

Jaeger says you can also apply for an absentee ballot without having to provide an excuse. And he says a number of voters take advantage of that.
