Sanstead to seek seventh term
Sanstead announced in Bismarck at the state Democratic NPL headquarters. DPI Superintendent is a no-party office -- but Sanstead says he's a life-long Democrat -- and wants the party to give him its letter of support.
Four years ago -- the party gave that support to Max Laird, the former President of the North Dakota Education Association -- but Sanstead defeated him in the primary.
Sanstead says one of his top issues is adequate state funding for education.
"I've never before in my public life seen the resources that this state now has available," said Sanstead. "The question will be -- are we going to maks sure those resources are going to be moved into education?"
Sanstead says along with that -- he believes teacher salaries need to be raised.
"We're still 50th in teacher pay," Sanstead said. "Only South Dakota is behind us."
