TransCanada has proposed building the pipeline from Alberta, Canada to southern Illinois: a span or nearly 1,800 miles.
The proposal would have the pipeline cross portions of northern Missouri, as well as through parts of four other states.
The pipeline's project manager Brian Peterson says if it's approved TransCanada wouldn't begin construction of the pipeline until 2008. He says right now the company is simply floating the idea.
"We're at the very early stages, out to talk to people in the local communities that could be impacted by this project. We want to understand what their issues are and what questions they have and try to bring those into the design and execution phase of the project."
The meeting in Mexico mirrors meetings TransCanada officials have already had in Trenton and Keytesville and plan to have in Troy and St. Charles later this month.
