Stupak sponsors bills to improve veterans' benefits
(2005-11-11)
LANSING, MI
(wnmu) -
Congressman Bart Stupak has introduced a bill that would help to improve veterans' benefits. The Cold Weather Injury Compensation Act would allow Korean War veterans who sustained injuries from harsh weather conditions to receive compensation and health benefits. Stupak says that injuries sustained from the weather in Korea should be treated the same as bullet or mine wounds. Another bill would increase veterans travel reimbursements from 11 cents per mile to 48.5 cents per mile the current federal employee rate. The rate has not been updated since 1977. The bill would also mandate new funds so other Veterans Affairs programs are not cut to pay for travel reimbursement.
