The Search for Swine Flu Vaccine
(2009-10-27)
(MPRN) -

State health officials say finding vaccinations for the H1N1 flu virus is hard because the Center for Disease Control has not met the supply numbers promised to states.

Representatives from the Department of Community Health testified before the state House Health Policy Committee. They say they understand the public concern that vaccinations are not yet readily available.

"Part of the issue has been that there were such expectations put up at the beginning - that there was going to be 45 million doses by this September," Doctor Greg Holzman testified with representatives from DCH, "but when I think about the fact that six months ago a new virus new to this world came onto the scene and we're talking six months later that we have a vaccine is pretty incredible."

Health officials say the H1N1 is no more deadly than other flu viruses. But they are instructing schools with outbreaks of H-one-N-one to close for five to seven days. And they say parents should keep their kids at home during school closings.
