Students Put Learning To Work CARBONDALE, IL (wsiu) - Students in the Urban Design and Community class at SIU-Carbondale are going to get a unique learning opportunity this semester.
The students will take a bus trip through Memphis and New Orleans in mid-September. Professor Michael Brazley says the students will work on projects involving housing in Cairo, racial tensions in a Memphis neighborhood and the demolition of historic homes in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans.
He says working on real world situations is somewhat new for architecture students - but something they enjoy.
Brazley says working on real world applications is producing higher quality graduates and even bringing more non-traditional students into the Architecture Program.
The students will leave on their trip September 15th and return to Carbondale on September 20th.
