Sale of scooters skyrockets amid high gas prices
(2008-05-27)
(KOSU) - As the price of gas continues to climb, more Oklahomans are looking at scooters and motorcycles as a more economical mode of transportation.
Dealers in the state say they've seen a spike in sales over the last few months.
Grady Maples of Tulsa says he got so fed up with gas prices that he traded in his car for a motor scooter. Now he says he's saving hundreds of dollars each month in gas.
The average motorycle gets about 40 to 50 miles per gallon, while scooters range from between 70 to 80 miles per gallon.
Those interested in using motorcycles or motor scooters must pass a special written test since both require special state licenses.
