(wgvu) - MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A conservation group says Congress must
allocate 100-million dollars for land purchases within the national
park system in fiscal 2009 or risk compromising the natural,
historical and scenic integrity of 55 national treasures forever.
A report released today by the National Parks Conservation
Association recommends the federal government buy land in 55 of the
National Park Service's 391 units in the coming budget year.
The targets range from as small as a half-acre, shoreline parcel
in Michigan's Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore to a combined
125,000 acres that would complete the expansion of Petrified
National Forest Park in Arizona.
