Community Colleges & 4 Year Degrees
Michigan's community colleges support a proposal that would allow them to give 4 year degrees in very specialized tech fields.
Mike Hansen is the president of the Michigan Community College Association.
He says there's a growing demand for 4 year degrees in fields like, concrete technology.
Hansen insists the community colleges are not trying to steal away students from the University of Michigan, Michigan State or any of the state's other public 4 year universities.
"Instead of taking fish out of their net, we want to cast a larger net," says Hansen.
Some critics complain offering 4 year degrees is outside the mission of community colleges. © Copyright 2012, Michigan Radio
