Governor's new budget
(2007-11-29)
(wpr) - Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal continues to highlight goals for his state budget, which he is expected to unveil this week.

The governor is proposing an increase in school funding. As he released his plan, the governor called the state's support of education unshakable.

Freudenthal says he will recommend to the legislature spending more than $1.8 billion on K-12 schools for the 2009-2010 biennium. He says that figure is noteworthy because it means the state has been able to increase funding for schools in recent years without increasing taxes.

Within that budget, the governor suggests spending nearly $460 million for capital projects, which include building new schools or maintaining old ones.

Freudenthal says the state can and should keep up its vigorous pace of school constricution.

The governor will officially unveil his budget Friday.
