Budget Crisis-Reins Pulled on Horse Racing
Michigan horse race tracks may be ordered to shutdown tomorrow, if the state government budget crisis is not resolved.
6 tracks offer live or simulcasted horse racing in Michigan, or both.
But, state racing Commissioner Christine White is expected to issue an order halting all horse race gaming in Michigan.
The reason?
The commissioner's office is among those that will be closed as part of a state government shutdown.
Michigan Racing Commissioner spokeswoman Liana Bennett says the track shutdown will cost an undetermined amount of money.
"By shutting down the tracks, there's obviously going to be money lost. For the tracks, and as well for the state. We do receive tax on the simulcast racing," says Bennett.
