Farm Bureau Suggests 30-percent Property Tax Cut
(2007-09-25)
(wbaa) - The Indiana Farm Bureau has unveiled a detailed plan to provide immediate relief from property taxes.

The Bureau says hikes in income and sales taxes could cover a 30-percent property tax cut.

The plan calls for the state to take over all school, court and child welfare funding.

Income taxes would go up one point to four-point-four percent and sales takes increase one point to seven percent.

Farm Bureau President Don Villwock admits the burden of paying for the property tax cut would fall to individuals instead of businesses or farms.

Villwock says the bureau's idea also brings an extra 400-million dollars for a schools-only rainy day fund.
